Public Health and Sustainable Transport Conference 2024

The places we live, work, play and age have an important role in determining our health and wellbeing and enabling communities to thrive.

Transport is important for health. The transport system, is integral to creating better health, reducing inequalities and creating a sustainable future.

Join us online for the Public Health and Sustainable Transport Conference on 28 November 2024.

Insightful key-note speakers: 

Dr Ian Walker 

Head of School of Psychology, Swansea University

Professor of environmental psychology at Swansea University. Known for leading on motonormativity work and carries out research on road safety travel choices, energy consumption, water use and the built environment. This research has particular focus on unconscious and low awareness causes of everyday behaviour like habits, the environment around us and unconscious stereotypes.

His work is included collaborating with such bodies as the Department for Transport, Wessex Water, Western Power Distribution. RWE npower, SaveWaterSaveMoney, Transportøkonomisk institutt Norway, lots of local authorities, and Cycling England.

Laura Young 

Climate Activist, Environmental Scientist, Ethical Influencer

In October 2022 Laura began her PhD between the University of Abertay and the University of Dundee as a Hydro Nations Scholar in climate resilience work.

Speaking engagements, have been a core part of Laura’s work, from her TEDx Talk to schools, conferences, and working with the private sector. She works with businesses of all sizes from independent local shops through to global brands. Laura regularly speaks in the media, bringing her expertise into conversations about climate, waste, sustainable fashion, and environmental justice issues.

Anne Marte Bergseng 

Programme Manager, ClimateXChange

Anne Marte works for ClimateXChange, Scotland’s centre of expertise connecting climate change research and policy. She has managed research across climate change adaptation and social change and worked on knowledge exchange across environmental and sustainability issues for over 20 years.

The workshops will give you a chance to hear about work happening across Scotland towards our shared ambitions to improve health, reduce inequalities and take climate action.

Join us as we share good practice and discuss key questions about influencing decisions and their impact, citizen engagement, training, data and evidence and more.
